Skylands Food celebrates the people, places and food that make this corner of New Jersey worth the drive — independent restaurants, family farms, orchards, bakeries, breweries, wineries and markets across Sussex, Morris, Warren, Hunterdon and Somerset counties.

We publish seasonal guides, profiles of the places we love, and a calendar of the dinners, tastings and farm events worth planning a weekend around.

Who's behind it

Skylands Food was founded by Robert Brown, who edits everything on the site. Robert set out to champion the independent kitchens, growers and makers of the Skylands and to make them easier to find.

Our editorial standard

A Skylands Food Pick is a place we would send a friend. To earn one, a place must:

Be independent — locally owned and run, not a chain.
Do something with real care — cooking, growing, baking or brewing that stands out.
Belong to the region — local sourcing, local people, or a sense of place you can taste.
Be verified firsthand — visited by us, or confirmed directly with the owners.

Every listing shows the date its hours and details were last checked. Picks are never paid for. If we ever publish sponsored content, it will always be clearly labeled.

The Skylands

The Skylands is a New Jersey tourism region made up of Sussex, Morris, Warren, Hunterdon and Somerset counties, known for farms, orchards, small historic towns, the Delaware Water Gap and the Kittatinny Ridge.
