Walter and Hilda Valkema came from Friesland in 1952 and opened the bakery in July 1954 after starting out baking in their garage. Their son Sam took over around 1966 and grandson Owen in 2000; Owen and Stephanie run it now. They bake Dutch specialties from the family's original recipes, such as speculaas windmill cookies, krakelingen and almond-filled pastries, alongside a full case of everyday baked goods. The shop also stocks imported Dutch groceries, cheese and licorice.
