River Bend Farm dates to the late 1800s, and Angus cattle have grazed its hills since the 1960s. Today the farm keeps about 200 Angus cattle and 100 Berkshire pigs, along with pasture-raised lamb, all raised without antibiotics or hormones. Its sister operation, Gladstone Valley, is run by the Vogelaar children: broiler chickens in mobile pens moved to fresh grass daily, about 600 laying hens whose mobile houses follow the cattle, and Bronze turkeys for Thanksgiving. The meat also turns up at Gladstone Tavern, Fiddler's Elbow, the Stockton Inn and Ironbound Cider.
